Tips to Keep You Cool

Summer is a time of intense heat and it is the time of year associated with Pitta Dosha. The energy of Summer can cause an imbalance in many of us. You may find yourself easily aggitated, flustered, and overheated. If this sounds familiar then keep reading.
In Ayurveda, diet is a major focus for maintaining wellness and balance in the body as it is in many Wellness approaches. Foods are categorized based on their qualities and how those qualities present in the person consuming them.

My favorite cooling foods are:
Cucumber
Watermelon
Cilantro
Coconut (milk, water, meat)
Lime
Zucchini
Avocado

Some foods known to increase heat in the body and the negatives aspects of Pitta Dosha are:
Caffeine
Alcohol
Tomato
Peppers
Fresh Garlic
Fresh Ginger
Potatoes
Eggplant
Anything Spicy Hot

Now if you’re like most people, you love all of the things that aren’t necessarily great for you. Isn’t it funny how that works!? Also if you’re like most people you think to yourself, “but I don’t want to give up all of my favorite things.” You don’t have to give them up to find a better balance for yourself, you just need to practice moderation and awareness.
